Remember These Guys?...

I've turned a new leaf. I decided I was going to get over my pity party and quit complaining about how I'm so out of shape. Sure, I took off my pregnancy pounds, but any woman who's had a baby will tell you that nothing is in the same place after pregnancy. Nothing feels the same. And everything is just a little bit lumpier, dumpier, and uglier than it was before you had that little ragmuffin.

So I made a deal with my husband that I would start working on my upper body to help build some strength. Oh, how I hate weight lifting. Hate it! Hate it! Hate it! But, alas, he had an idea! He had started doing that P90X program about 3 months ago, and I was seeing
immediate results on him. How about me too?

I've gotta admit, P90X scared the crap out of me. Something with letters and numbers in the title is not a good thing. That means that the program works you very hard...maybe harder than I'm capable of doing. I really didn't know if I had it in me. But here I am done with my first month (Phase 1), and I'm really enjoying myself which surprised me more than anything.

What's really great is each day is different so no boredom sets in like most programs. One day I do shoulders and arms and the next day I do legs and back. Then maybe the next day is biceps and chest and then the following day will be legs again. The program incorporates one day of yoga and another day for rest. On leg days, I've made it my own program and go running instead. I switched my nanny's schedule around so she comes in 4-7pm, and I get to go running when its cooler outside. I didn't realize how much I missed running...with just me!

Oh, mentioning running...remember when I could only run 20 minutes at a time? Well, now I'm consitently running 4 miles (6.5k) 2-3 times a week, and I'm doing it in about a 11:25/MPH pace. I'll take it! Plus, because I'm also strengthening my upper body and core, I'm not hurting as much the next day. No more waddling or holding on to something as I painfully try to sit down!
On top of the program, I've made a slight change in my diet. I've completely cut out all soda and coffee. Those may have been the most painful 3 days of my life when I experienced Mexican Coke withdrawal. Trust me, its stronger the US Coke. I also only allow myself 1-2 beers on Wednesdays (rest/cheat day). I love me some beer, but it was killing the belly! Now, I drink water the whole day and allow myself some wine at night. I feel so much better, and I'm a lot more alert during the day because I'm not pouring all that caffeine and sugar down my system.
Before 170 lbs (77.11 kilos)

After 165 lbs (74.84 kilos)

First, excuse my self pictures. I think that may have been the hardest thing I've ever decided to post on here because it just shows me in maybe not my oh so best. So far after the one month, I have lost 5 pounds (2.26 kilos) and roughly 1% body fat. It bounces back and forth between 1-1/2% so I'll take the 1% today because that's what the scale said. :) I can do that, right? The best part is that I've lost a full inch off of all the important stuff, and my clothes are screaming the results. I've had to sew an extra button on all my shorts so they don't fall off!

Now, I'm in Phase 2, and the program gets a little bit harder. They say that you really start seeing the results in this phase so I'm looking forward to this month....looking forward to getting my butt kicked by a video. Crazy huh?
